Susan Winkler has been studying yoga for 10 years. She completed a 700-hour teacher training program at Soma Center, gaining her teaching certification in 2000.

The training program Susan completed included studying the yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (breath), meditation, and bandhas, as well as yoga philosophy, Bhaghavad Gita and Yoga Sutras.

Susan has continued to attend yogic workshops on subjects such as human anatomy, pre-natal yoga, and kirtan (chanting). She has also studied many related areas such as meditative movement/dance, holistic health, nutrition, and Reiki. Susan follows a vegetarian diet, organic whenever possible, and loves cooking food that is both healthy and tasty!

Susan has taught at several yoga schools and fitness centers, and has now opened her own yoga studio, Yoga Vayu, in downtown New Brunswick.

Classes:
Yoga is a discipline developed in India about 5000 years ago. The word “Yoga” translates to “Union” and the ultimate goal is full unity of the Self through a connection between body, mind, and spirit. It is a practice that incorporates focused breathing, meditation, and physical postures. Susan focuses on all of these yogic aspects during her classes, trying to balance the physical aspects with the meditative.

Susan believes strongly in the power of yoga to relieve mental and emotional stress, allowing students to find peace and comfort within themselves.
Stress can manifest itself in the body as physical ailments such as high blood pressure, heart disease, migraines, asthma, and digestive problems, as well as mental ailments such as depression, anxiety and insomnia. Through meditation and relaxation techniques, the body can begin to heal itself. This is the main focus of Susan’s classes, incorporating postures that improve the body’s flexibility and strength.
